Vitaly Nikolaevich Melnikov (24.01.1941 - 27.03.2017)

With deep regret we announce that after a serious illness died Professor Vitaly Melnikov, Dr. Sci., famous scientist and organizer of science, President of the Russian Gravitational Society, head of the Center for Gravitation and Fundamental Metrology at VNIIMS, Deputy Director of the Institute of Gravitation and Cosmology at Peoplesí Friendship University of Russia.

Vitaly Melnikov, with his colleagues and students, has created a new trend in the field of gravity. He is the author of five monographs and over 300 journal publications, he has been founder and Editor-in-Chief of the international journal "Gravitation and Cosmology", organizer of numerous national and international conferences and schools in the field of gravity and cosmology.

Vitaly Melnikov was a very cheerful and energetic person, careful and responsive to his colleagues and students, friendly and intelligent.

The blessed memory of Vitaly Nikolaevich Melnikov will remain in the hearts of his co-workers, colleagues, and students. We express our deep condolences to his family and friends. May his memory be eternal!

Unites more than 300 scientists from Russia and republics of the former Soviet Union in the fields of gravitation, cosmology, relativistic astrophysics and related topics.

Major groups in these fields are working in Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Kazan, Tomsk, Yaroslavl, Ulyanovsk, Perm, Nizhny Novgorod, Novgorod, Kaliningrad, Omsk etc.
RGS organizes regularly conferences, schools and seminars. National Conferences are held each 3 years. Last conferences were held in Tomsk (2002), Kazan (2005), Moscow (2008), Ul'yanovsk (2011) and Kazan' (2014).
Other conferences and schools of the RGS of the smaller size have been organized in Yaroslavl (1994), Odessa (1995), Ulyanovsk (1997), Kazan-Yalchik (2007, 2009-2014), Perm' (2013), Moscow (2010).
RGS has its regular scientific seminar at Moscow State University (on Thursdays in a week, at 18.30, room N4-58, Department of Physics).
